Protecting your super at NGS
07 Apr 2025 1 min readYour super is one of your most important financial assets, and protecting it is our priority. At NGS Super, we’re committed to protecting our members, which is why we have a range of security measures in place, including Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), which is mandatory for Member Online. This additional layer of security helps protect against unauthorised access and ensures your retirement savings are better safeguarded from the growing threat of cyber-attacks.
Stay alert to suspicious activity
When interacting with NGS Super, here are some things to look out for:
- Always be cautious of unexpected messages or calls requesting personal or financial information. Legitimate requests for personal information from NGS will be in response to an enquiry or application you’ve submitted. From time to time, we may proactively reach out to you to help you manage your account and ensure you’re getting the most out of your relationship with NGS. Our communications will clearly identify NGS as the sender.
- If you do receive a suspicious message, don’t click on any links or download attachments. Instead, please take a screenshot or a copy of the message and call our Helpline.
- If you make any payment requests (e.g. transfers or retirement income payments) you will receive an SMS or email notification once your request is received by us. If you receive a notification without having made a request, or if you have any concerns about the message, please contact our Helpline immediately.
If you're ever in doubt, please call us to confirm whether the communication is genuinely from NGS Super.
Tips for protecting your super online
Here are some easy ways to help keep your NGS Super account secure:
- Never share your Member Online password or MFA code.
- Only action MFA and other security requests that you have initiated and are comfortable to proceed with.
- Use strong passwords that include a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols.
- Avoid using personal information like your name or birthdate in your password.
- Don’t reuse the same password across multiple accounts.
- Update your passwords regularly.
- Keep your devices and the NGS app up to date.
- Use secure, private internet connections — avoid logging in on public Wi-Fi.
- Always protect your phone or tablet with a passcode.
- Hover over links or email addresses before clicking or replying to check for suspicious email addresses or URLs.
- Look for the padlock symbol in your browser to confirm a secure connection.
- Keep your contact details with us up to date in case we need to reach you.
Unfortunately, there are many ways online scams can take place. You can learn more about common scams online via Scamwatch. The best way to protect yourself is to be aware.
Be wary of any communication that:
- Demands immediate payment online.
- Creates unnecessary urgency to provide personal details.
- Requests payment via wire transfer or gift cards.
- Contains spelling mistakes or poor grammar.
- Asks for your login credentials or MFA code.
- Comes from an unfamiliar or unofficial email address.
Scammers can target people both online and offline, looking for opportunities to exploit another person's information. This is known as identity theft.
You can reduce your risk of identity theft by:
- Locking your home letterbox to prevent mail theft.
- Shredding documents that contain personal information before disposal.
- Being cautious of cold calls asking for personal or banking details.
- Limiting the personal information you share on social media.
- Notifying NGS of any changes to your name, address, or contact details.
Our team are here to help should you have any questions or need assistance. When in doubt, you can always verify a message by calling our Helpline on 1300 133 177 (8am–8pm, Monday to Friday AEST/AEDT).
